Student Support Team

 

The Student SupportTeam addresses the specific needs of individual students who may be struggling with their academics and/or behavior. The team includes the child’s classroom teacher, school counselor, EC teacher, as well as tutors and administrators when applicable. The team reviews information provided by the teachers and parents and discusses strategies to help students achieve their full potential. Students are referred to the team by the classroom teacher. Several programs are offered for student assistance.

TITLE I 

Title I is a federally funded program designed to supplement classroom instruction in reading by improving the educational opportunities of children. We seek to help students feel successful in school, attain grade-level proficiency, and improve achievement in both basic and advanced reading skills. Students meet 4-5 times per week in a small group setting. Title I services are provided by a certified reading specialist and assistant. EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

A free appropriate public education is the right of every child with a disability. As a federally funded school, ArtSpace Charter provides Exceptional Children’s services to qualifying children with mental, physical and emotional disabilities who are unable to benefit from a regular school program without special assistance. The Exceptional Children’s program at ArtSpace strives to serve each child with a disability in the regular classroom using an inclusion mode when possible. COUNSELING PROGRAM

ArtSpace employs a full-time School Counselor for grades K-8. The School Counselor’s role is to promote the academic, personal/social and future success of all students. This is accomplished through individual and small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, and program coordination. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS

As per the McKinney-Vento all public schools must support the educational rights of homeless children.  ArtSpace has a homeless liason and as well as information for homeless student support.  Learn more

Title IX

ArtSpace Charter School is committed to providing an environment free from all forms of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and violence, as required by law. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to the Civil Rights Act provides that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”  This policy and its associated procedures shall apply in all instances to prohibit and address allegations of such misconduct.

Tina Sneed is a proud alumna of Clemson University, married to Chip, and a mother of adult children who live in Manhattan, San Diego, and Portland {OR} – which gives her a great excuse to travel. She enjoys reading, traveling, walking, knitting, and eating.

Alicia has a great passion for social and emotional wellbeing, which lead her to pursue a B.A. in psychology from Framingham State University, and an M.A in School Counseling from Boston College. She moved to WNC in June 2024, with her husband and their French Bulldog. In her free time, she enjoys mountain biking, mushroom hunting, learning new things, and connecting with family and friends. 
I am a husband, dog dad, video gamer and anime enthusiast! I graduated from South Carolina State University in 2017 with a B.S. in Child Development, I received my Master's in Sports Administration from The University of Cincinnati in 2021. I have been working in education  for 8 years and have 6 years of experience as a behavior specialist. 
I hold an innate curiosity for culture and exploration. This path has led me to a career in education, fine arts, theatre, travel, and now, a focus on supporting dual language, emergent multilingual learners. (I will complete a Grad. Cert. in Dual Language Immersion Administration from ECU in December.) With this deep passion, I am thrilled to be a part of the 2023-2024 ArtSpace community! I'm originally from the outskirts of Chicago, lived in various other states, and now call these glorious mountains home! I'm a proud "Mama Bear:" I have a partner named Jaime who spent his childhood in Guadalajara, Mexico; he's my Spanish teacher- bless him, and our son's name is Oliver Valente; he's 4.5 years old; also, my parents, lifelong educators, live in Black Mountain, NC. I'm honored to be a part of empowering and supporting our talented students with a heart filled with gratitude!
